There is a rumor in the air that certain insects when fed certain nutrients secrete crude oil.

There is a privately funded company in silicon valley that has been given 20 million dollars to further research the possiblity of getting combustable fuels from bug secretions. The company spokesman (Mr. Pal) says they are about a month from using it or testing it in an actual motor.

“Ten years ago I could never have imagined I’d be doing this,” says Greg Pal, 33, a former software executive, as he squints into the late afternoon Californian sun. “I mean, this is essentially agriculture, right? But the people I talk to – especially the ones coming out of business school – this is the one hot area everyone wants to get into.”

He's talking about insects. The genetic designing of bugs – itsy bitty ones – so that when they consume agricultural waste such as wood-chips or wheat straw, they do something until now unknown. They excrete crude oil, petroleum.

Now i don't know about you but this seems like it should be the headline on all papers and newscasts around the country, world even.
